Moody's assigned Sky Protocol, formerly MakerDAO, a B3 issuer rating with a stable outlook, marking the first time a major credit agency has rated a stablecoin protocol as an issuer rather than just its product. S&P has also assigned a B- rating. The ratings reflect the protocol's revenue model, governance risk, and collateral quality behind its USDS stablecoin, with institutional interest in USDS reportedly growing as a yield-bearing dollar instrument.
For Armada's crypto repo desk, this is a landmark precedent. If USDS or Sky-issued tokenized instruments are proposed as repo collateral by counterparties such as family offices or market makers, Armada now has an external rating anchor for credit assessment. A B3 or B- rating is sub-investment-grade, which should trigger a review of whether such instruments meet Armada's collateral eligibility thresholds and what haircuts would apply under its credit policy framework.
