The UK Debt Management Office named six banks to underwrite and distribute DIGIT, a short-dated digital gilt to be issued on HSBC's Orion blockchain platform. The instrument sits outside the UK's main debt management programme, making it a controlled pilot rather than a full integration of tokenization into sovereign debt operations.
For Armada, DIGIT is relevant to both desks. On the traditional side, if digital gilts eventually become eligible repo collateral accepted at FICC or under GMRA schedules, Armada needs to understand their legal and settlement characteristics versus conventional gilts. On the crypto desk, DIGIT represents a sovereign-grade tokenized instrument that could, over time, qualify as the type of tokenized T-Bill collateral Armada accepts, setting quality and structure benchmarks for similar instruments from issuers like Spiko.
