Coinbase has launched a product allowing its users to borrow USDC against Bitcoin holdings at a fixed interest rate, bringing a retail-facing crypto-collateralized lending product to one of the largest U.S. exchange platforms. While terms and rate levels have not been fully disclosed, the product mirrors the structural mechanics of crypto repo: BTC posted as collateral, stablecoin liquidity received, fixed cost of funds.
For Armada's crypto repo desk, this matters because Coinbase's scale and brand will set informal rate expectations among retail-adjacent institutional clients such as family offices and smaller market makers. If Coinbase's fixed rates undercut Armada's institutional pricing, counterparties may use it as a negotiating reference. Armada should document how its offering differs โ namely, no rehypothecation, Fireblocks custody, and SOC 2 positioning โ to justify any spread differential.
