Deutsche Bank Near Launch of Institutional Crypto Custody Service

CoinDesk · Sep 16, 2026 6:46 AM EDT

Deutsche Bank is reportedly close to launching a crypto custody service targeting institutional clients, positioning the global systemically important bank as a direct participant in digital asset safekeeping. While details on supported assets, jurisdictions, and fee structures remain limited, the bank has been building its digital asset infrastructure through partnerships and internal development for several years. A launch would mark one of the most significant entries by a G-SIB into crypto custody.

For Armada's crypto repo desk, which relies on Fireblocks for custody and uses its SOC 2 positioning as a trust signal with family offices and hedge funds, Deutsche Bank's entry changes the competitive landscape. Institutional counterparties may begin evaluating or requiring bank-grade custody alternatives. Armada should confirm that its Fireblocks MSA covers the full scope of collateral types including BTC, ETH, SOL, and HYPE, and be prepared to articulate why its no-rehypothecation policy and existing custody setup remain preferred.

Suggested action Confirm Fireblocks MSA differentiators and update crypto desk counterparty pitch to address Deutsche Bank custody as an emerging alternative.
