21 major banks including BofA, Citi, Goldman commit to joint dollar stablecoin venture

The Defiant · Sep 2, 2026 11:01 AM EDT

Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, UBS, Deutsche Bank, and 16 other financial institutions announced plans to incorporate a joint venture in H2 2026 to issue a dollar-denominated stablecoin, targeting a market launch in H1 2027. No entity name or ownership breakdown was disclosed, but the breadth of participation makes this the most institutionally credentialed stablecoin initiative to date.

For Armada's crypto-repo desk, a bank-backed stablecoin with transparent reserve management could eventually sit alongside tokenized T-Bills as eligible collateral, potentially offering counterparties a new high-quality short-duration asset. Armada's no-rehypothecation policy and Fireblocks custody framework would need to be assessed against the stablecoin's redemption mechanics and issuer structure before any onboarding decision.

Suggested action Track incorporation details and reserve-backing structure; evaluate whether consortium stablecoin qualifies under Armada's crypto-collateral eligibility policy.
