Independent Stress Tests Find Aave V4 Liquidation Capacity Constrained Under Collateral Shock

Aave Governance Forum · Aug 19, 2026 4:02 AM EDT

An independent researcher published open-source stress tests on Aave V4's liquidation engine, finding that under severe collateral price shocks, available market depth may be insufficient to clear borrowers within the liquidation bonus window. The tests were frozen at August 18, 2026 block data and are not affiliated with Aave Labs or Chaos Labs, but use publicly verifiable methodology and code.

For Armada's crypto desk, Aave's liquidation depth is a critical external benchmark because it proxies real-time market capacity to absorb BTC and ETH collateral in a stress scenario. If Aave's own system cannot liquidate at prevailing depth, Armada's own haircut assumptions on the same assets may be too thin. The findings support reviewing LTV ratios for BTC and ETH repo collateral, particularly for large single-counterparty exposures.

Suggested action Reassess BTC and ETH LTV ratios vs Aave stress-test findings; tighten haircuts if market-depth assumptions are stale.
