The SEC is set to delay its so-called innovation exemption for tokenization for at least a second time, according to reporting, as both Wall Street incumbents and the White House raise competing concerns about the scope and design of the carve-out. The exemption was intended to provide a clearer regulatory pathway for firms issuing or transacting in tokenized securities, including tokenized money market funds and Treasury products, without triggering full securities registration obligations.
For Armada's crypto repo desk, this is a direct operational concern. Tokenized T-Bills are among the most attractive collateral assets for institutional crypto-collateralized repo due to their yield and perceived stability, but without regulatory clarity on their treatment, counterparty acceptance and legal enforceability of repo agreements backed by such instruments remain uncertain. The delay also affects how Armada can represent its collateral eligibility to family offices and hedge funds considering tokenized assets.
