Gemini's Olympus unit receives CFTC Derivatives Clearing Organization license

The Block · Apr 30, 2026 9:01 AM EDT

Gemini's derivatives subsidiary Olympus has received a Derivatives Clearing Organization license from the CFTC, allowing it to function as an in-house clearinghouse for crypto derivatives. This is one of only a handful of DCO licenses issued to crypto-native firms and positions Gemini to offer cleared derivatives without routing through traditional clearing intermediaries like LCH or OCC.

For Armada's crypto desk, the DCO license establishes a regulatory template for how crypto financial infrastructure can obtain CFTC recognition. As crypto market structure legislation advances, cleared repo structures involving digital assets may eventually fall within CFTC jurisdiction, and DCO frameworks could become the model. Armada should track whether Olympus's clearing rules address repo-like structures or securities lending, as this could shape future compliance requirements.

Suggested action Monitor Gemini DCO clearing rules for any repo-adjacent derivative treatment that could inform Armada's CFTC compliance posture.
